I don't think there is a massive conspiracy from corporations. I do however think that a number of corporations need some forms of regulation. Just having the job of making money and raising stock isn't what business is all about. They have an expected amount of contribution back to society. Business is about making money, but, there needs to be regulations put on people so that they cannot just get out of hand trying to do it. I have a belief in laissez-faire but completely unregulated companies in the US would do nothing but run us into the ground. Monopoly anyone?

FOXBusiness.com - SEC Says New Financial Regulation Law Exempts it From Public Disclosure

So much for transparency.

Under a little-noticed provision of the recently passed financial-reform legislation, the Securities and Exchange Commission no longer has to comply with virtually all requests for information releases from the public, including those filed under the Freedom of Information Act.

The law, signed last week by President Obama, exempts the SEC from disclosing records or information derived from "surveillance, risk assessments, or other regulatory and oversight activities." Given that the SEC is a regulatory body, the provision covers almost every action by the agency, lawyers say. Congress and federal agencies can request information, but the public cannot.

Can you say "Unrepresentative Democracy" ?
