vagrantnomad: (d1,d4) hay i just noticed i missed an o in your handle sorry about that! sometimes i spell words that bad that spell check has no idear what it is. i used to play scrabble alot to try and learn but all that happened was that i got realy good at scrabble and no better at spelling.
Iconoclast: (b7,c6) I dunno about 3/7 in the minor. Too many errors to get to 50%. Anyway, back this game - which I forgot about, mia culpa. I am not so sure that you should have swapped your "good" central and supported knight for my average knight. now I have a big pawn centre which will further restrict your already slow development. Better for you, I think, would have been Be2 then O-O.

You cannot castle either side for at least 2 moves. I also have a white B. Your black sq B is bogged and Q side N a long way to go to get well placed. Over all, your position is behind. Why? Because you were pushing pawns up one square at a time instead of developing your pieces. In fact, in this position all I have to do is keep building my positional strength and then attack on the Q side.

Iconoclast: (c5,d4) This move is a normal "reactive" move by a beginner, it is a weak move. Why? The beginner knows that having two centre pawns against the enemy's one center pawn is "good". However, the resulting position will have my black pawn blocked and fixed in place, on d5. It is called a "backward pawn". It is vulnerable to attack. A whole piece will be required to protect it for a long time :-( A better move for me would have been b6. Then if dxc, I bxc, and that way I keep my pawn centre which can still push forward. Your next move must now be to take the black pawn. But what will you take it with? N or B or pawn. (Hint: my strong fianchetto* bishop on g7 must be kept under control.) [*A bishop on b2, g2, b7 or g7. It is generally a useful place for a bishop to be.]

Iconoclast: (b8,c6) OK. From this move on, I will "guide" the game to show some basic principles of play. During the "opening" both sides try to "control" the centre. That means the four centre squares (e4, e5, d4, d5) should be protected/attacked/occupied by YOU. You should own them. Do so allows you to put protected pieces closer to the enemy King. Controlling those four squares also makes attacks against our King more difficult to construct. My move Nc6 helps me to better control e4 and d5. You next move should be to: 1. Use another piece to try to take centre control back from me. or 2. Use a pawn to bust-up my pawns in the centre and challenge me for control of the centre.
