I recommend d4 followed by c3, gambiting the pawn and getting some activity - Morra Smith style. What do you guys think? Is the possum a gambity opening?

I believe we should get Ax's opinion? I thought the move was d3? creating what is known as the "possum point"

They are going to think we completely lost our minds! But, that's neither here nor there. I am changing my vote to d3!

Long live the possum.

Well, d3 works here, but I don't think it works in the other game.

Please remember this was the very opening that was so threatening and caused so much consternation amongst the soviet chess hierarchy in the 1950s that it necessitated them setting the uber secret Black Wolf group onto us.

Calvin, i'm not sure if you're aware , but i am perhaps the only remaining possum master alive.
So with all due respect , b3 is too weakening , d3 is solid and is the tried and true tested text move.
