In conventional popularity terms the group reached its height with a top ten hit in 1976 with " Don't fear the reaper"

I've tried looking at the 'Top' lists but they just don't work for me. I can't base my playlists based on songs that other people like. It's a nice way to find new music, but at the same time, most the songs on the lists I've already heard - some I care for, some I don't.

I agree, but AO asked "how big the group was at their height?"

Default Dave Matthews - Don't Drink the Water

.
This is one of the top ten best songs ever. Dave Matthews, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is certainly an acquired taste, but once acquired its just so enjoyable.

The first minute and thirty seconds of this clip is useless, it starts at 1:30.

Enjoy.
