Exclamation Labor Pains!

Julia Gillard says Rudd doing 'great job' as key backers count allies | Herald Sun
In a signal Ms Gillard is preparing for a possible showdown with Mr Rudd in the first half of this year, factional bosses aligned to her have been contacting MPs secretly to ascertain support for Mr Rudd.

Senior NSW sources confirmed factional bosses had been "counting numbers" and claimed that of the 18 members of the NSW Right, Ms Gillard now has at most only five MPs behind her.

Sources said they included ministers Mark Arbib, Jason Clare, Tony Burke and backbenchers Chris Hayes and Joel Fitzgibbon.

Mr Rudd has eight MPs willing to back him, with the remainder undecided.

Ms Gillard's main support appears to rest with the Victorian Right, led by Bill Shorten.

Mr Crean warned against switching leaders and said he didn't believe Mr Rudd would mount a challenge against Ms Gillard.
If I was Gillard I would go to the caucus for a vote for the leadership asap. If this drags out all year like it did last year it will not help her or the party regain a election winning position.

Watching a sinking ship - how engrossing - we are all glued to our seats.

(any Labor MP in Qld I suspect has felt the glue snapped, their posterior bared and the big jack boot lined up ready to despatch them)

The best outcome for Australia is a poll to decide. Whereupon Juliar will get the proverbial kicked out of her posterior and we will be able to move forward as a Nation again.

(pretty clear about how i feel on this one) - Oh and yes - I am not wedded to a single party view and even thought it was time for John H to go - but the reality has proven to be a disaster.

Gillard is in serious trouble once the next election comes around.

However, can someone please explain what Abbott has done to be the next PM? Does he even have a policy, because everything he says is just a negative swipe at Labor. I hope he knows if he gets into power he will actually have to come up with some ideas of his own.

On another note, if Abbott gets in we will have to put up with Joe Hockey. He is an arrogant one with a face you would just love to punch

Good post drjukka. Hopefully next time we have a successful, but tired government, we won't kick them out on their ass for someone who pretends to be a cuddlier version of the guy we used to like.

Howard was finished and deserved some major pain for the Iraq invasion, but these last few years make me miss the optimism Australia felt during most of his tenure.
