Talking Canberra Politics

It's plainly obvious that Julia Gillard continues to underestimate Tony Abbott. The wait until the policy benefits kick in strategy didn't work for NSW Labor and there's little chance it will for Federal Labor either. And of course, a by-election is only a heartbeat away.

What Julia is forgetting is the destructive effect that the Greens majority in the Senate will have from July 1 onwards.

She is using this strategy because she has no choice. She is stuck in an unworkable minority, is trying to bring in an unpopular carbon tax, and knows if she went to an election she and Labour would cop a thrashing. The longer Julia imposes failed policies and oversees more waste, the bigger the loss will be. Its like waiting for the NSW election all over.

Abbott will be like Beasley. He did well in one election campaign just coming up short. Second time round in 2001 he got pummelled. Abbott is destined to the same fate.

Did you hear the remarks from Bob Brown suggesting that because of the two recent digger deaths in Afghanistan, Australia should pull its troops from the country and return home?

What a spineless clown!

Too bad other Tasmanians like Kevin keep returning this joke to the Senate. Everyone who voted for this clown should bow their head in shame.

If Gillard goes down, is there a chance that Simon Crean might replace her?

Nothing to do with spine. It is everything to do with flogging a dead horse and arselicking the septic tanks.

We have seen what happens when terrorists in Afghanistan are left to their own devices and are not confronted by anyone. If the Western nations can gain the upper hand in this country by continuing their military presence, then I am all for it.

Never been to Afghanistan myself? I have seen it on television, but, that is not a real insight!

Terrorism works only when nations act terrorised. The cost of the "security measures" and waging "war on terrorism" is around a trillion dollars a year world wide. Just 10% of that cost is enough to rebuild every blown-up building and compensate every family for a death. Another 10% is enough for using traditional policing institutions to prevent most attacks.

Mainstream politicians are power hungry fools and we are even bigger fools for voting for them. They sell us the idea that bombing terrorists and any civilians in close proximity is the best way to stop attacks. But all it does is produce more terrorists.

Here is a chap who makes me proud to be an Australian, and he is spot on with this comments and views on this issue.

Politics is good if you can laugh at it otherwise the stupidity of it would make one cry. The pettiness of it, the childish behaviour is beyond contempt.

Its uncivil, and remember that on OzChess we all strive to be civil, even when issuing constructive criticism.

In any event, I think your focus should be on Gletsos because he really doesn't like you, whereas by contrast Kevin kind of has a soft spot for you.
