That is about enough to CURE the 30 million people in the third world who are blind with cataract. There are about 10 million AFL fans and each is getting to see their team play. So, each fan costs the blindness of three people. I sure hope the AFL spectacle is worth seeing.

I have a friend who has a cat. The cat is de-sexed meaning it cannot reproduce. If it could, my friend would be responsible for the care of several cats - including having to provide them with cataract surgery.

The moral of the story is ....

Spoiler for How to Address Poverty:
A better way to deal with poverty is to address the primary factor which causes it. Namely, over population. Birth control is the answer.

When the patient is losing claret from a puncture wound, you don't go looking for a man with a knife.

The blind are blind now. It is unconscionable to say, "phkem," we should just stop their children from having children.

BTW, poverty does not cause (nuclear*) cataract. We do not know (yet) the cause, but we know it is not as simple as toxins or nutrition or environment. Probably genetic. Therefore it is one of those diseases that do no respond to drugs or money.

*the most common type of cataract.
