Default Effect of Immigration in Australia

What will immigration be like under a Rudd government? Hopefully he can do a better job at it than Howard. More immigrants and refugees mean a better Australia!

While it is true that immigrants need jobs and some of those jobs could have gone to an Australian, there seems to be an assumption here that immigrants do not consume anything or have babies. Jobs aren't just created by immigrants who start businesses, they are also created by immigrants who need to buy furniture and other goods for their new home, buy food to feed their families, transport to get to work, teachers for their children etc. Immigrants also contribute babies to our society and many of the highly skilled people in our society today are the children of the people who did the menial "unskilled" jobs in the past with varying degrees of fluency in English.

So obviously, immigration is beneficial to Australia in several ways. They provide jobs, buy products and services to propell the economy, and make babies which grow up to become great citizens - in addition to doing the menial jobs that born Australians just are unwilling to do.
