No, OzChess was set up and operates exclusively through private funds and donations. Sadly, it does not currently generate any money. This is in contrast to the other Australia chess forum which is quietly supported by the Australia Chess Federation (ie. their recent purchase of the dot net domain which has been forwarded to that site with a very low profile so no one would make noises about the legitimacy of the ACF spending money to aid a 'privately' owned website). Indeed, if this expenditure of ACF money even shows up in the ACF Minutes or ACF newsletter I would be most surprised given the 'hush hush' nature of this questionable use of ACF funds. That said, I am currently in contact with a large chess company that may wish to purchase a banner atop of OzChess. Apart from that I am also considering Adsense/Google advertisements in the future. If you do wish to donate via Paypal, that is possible and can be done here: OzChess - Australia's Chess Forum PayPal Donations Best Regards AO

I know at some forums that is unavoidable because they are good communitys with good interaction, but the thought still annoys me.
This forum seems small and quaint but I do admit if Alex hadn't invited me to come here I probably wouldn't have let alone choose to post here. I don't mind small because small can have its own attractions and I have a passing interest in chess as well. |

I see. I agree it is a bit nice not seeing a forum covered in ads. But I also don't have a problem with them, we all have to pay the bills.

If a forum is able to generate a lot of interest (measured through numbers of the original clicks received daily) advertising revenue is possible to achive. Given, the current visitor numbers on this forum. It is best for now to focus on increasing general awareness about the websites in the chess community as at least 300-500 or so additional members are required to make it profitable.
