We all at times enjoy a nice casual game of chess, whether or not we prefer casual or competitive. If you are anything like me, you probably enjoy some friendly ribbing during a nice friendly game. There are players, however, that I have witnessed that take a simple game of chess and make it just as serious as if it were the finals in a large tournament! How are you when it comes to friendly games? Do you take it easy, or do you still treat it as a serious thing?

I start friendlies with rubbish like 1. h4, 2.g4
Rated games I play to win ASAP. Getting as far as the endgame is a failure. Draws are for worms. Win or lose, enjoy the game. Unfortunately for my rating prospects, a lucky win feels bad while an unlucky loss feels OK. So, I relax when winning and play with 100% effort when behind - which usually too late and not with enough skill anyway.

From what I have observed, you seem to be one of the most social chess players on the forum vagrantnomad! I have enjoyed watching some of your chess games that you have posted and still look forward to watching more!

I enjoy friendlies, and have even started a small group where we essentially play friendly games. It may grow to something larger but I enjoy the easiness, and the chance to make mistakes and take risks without rating penalties.
Saying that, when I play rated games, I generally play in exactly the same way

Can be...basically no strings attached games, some takebacks possibly, some banter, and no tournament stress.
