Rubbish, The Smurf did not rough him up. Read the annotations by Ian Rogers.
James was at least equal most of the way.

Take a look at the list of opponents. It is an impressive list. He played the tournament at IM standard and look at his performance rating. Two years ago people were saying James did not deserve an FM title. They were wrong.

Good on him and good on Bobby Cheng on his FM title.
