Time to update with latest results in this world of volatile changes to measures of player performance.
I have scanned all BHCC Autumn Cup results and noted that ratings were basically a super-predictor for games involving any two of the candidates for the 2009 Vic Junior title.
So, no update to our 'book' for that set of results.
A similar exercise through the 8 rounds (played) at the Noble Park Championship revealed one performance that saw the outsider get up.

The adjusted table is below:

Code:

Bobby Cheng	1	2133	1
Eugene Schon	2	2094	2
Cedic Antolis	3	2094	3
A Sannidhanam	4	1551	17
Sam Dalton	5	1925	5
Derek Yu	6	1838	6
L Matheson	7	1826	7
Jason Tang	8	1808	8
Justin Tan	9	1805	9
Michael Chan	10	1739	10
Ren Vijayakumar	11	1721	11
James Cameron	12	1709	12
Rhys Hopkins	13	1693	13
Sally Yu	14	1661	14
Luthien Russell	15	1652	15
Isaac Ng	16	1626	16
James Morris	17	2083	4
Gene Lai	18	1537	18
Nicholas Liu	19	1536	19
Vanja Rozenblat	20	1493	20
Thomas Feng	21	1472	21
Samuel Chan	22	1277	22
Andrew Gurevich	23	1223	23
Joshua Ng	24	1210	24
Vinay Lakshman	25	943	25
Column 1 = Name
Column 2 = Recent form predictor
Column 3 = Rating
Column 4 = March 09 rating position

Hmmmm... Anurag had a lucky win against James last week: james just left a piece en prise

Justin is also playing well unlike me

Bobby is also not having the greatest of tournaments

Did you ever play snakes and ladders when you were a kid?

Look on the bright side of the ladder, you moved up a position and you have the lucky one's #4 spot to aim at.

<Oops; I just checked the round 9 pairings at Noble Park. >

Anyhow, I have been given some more of the history:
Code:
1966 A Sykes
1967 D Kewly
1968 A Koelle
1969 E Levi
1970 S Booth
1971 S Lewinsky
1972 W Jordan
1973 W Jordan
1974 I Rogers
1975 I Rogers
1976 I Rogers
1977 G Horth
1978 I Rogers
1979 G Horth
1980 P Skiotis
1981 S Solomon
1982 L Rotstayn
1983 M Drummond
1984 A Zhitnik
1985 JP Fenwick
1986 N Mills
1987 EH Lau
1988 S Anderson
		R Cailis
		K Wong
1989 M Kagan
1990 S Rutherford
1991 S Rutherford
Bit of an eye-opener eh(?) to see names such as Rogers, Solomon, Jordan who have gone on to be titled players.
Who will see the 2009 Victorian title as a necessary step to their CV?

Finally, a question for Sally Yu.
One of the above shows it can be done.

Recent rounds of the Box Hill Championship have identified a smokey to be added to the bookies-field for next months Victorian Junior.
The track-watchers will take an interest in this board 3 pairing tonight.

Code:
3	Yilun Ding	1401	:	Chris Wallis	2124
The smokey has done well recently on a regional track at Croydon.

A good question for forensic historians....Has an unrated player ever won the Vic Junior Title?

Based on the rating difference, I'd expect Wallis to hammer him.

Well, AO, technically, actually, and philosophically, he is unrated.
The locally allocated rating was a best guess by the Arbiter. <Our local practice to end guesses with a 1401>.

I thought the hint about un-rated in the original post may have been an alert.
