Substitute Players for FIDE-rated tournaments - Chess Chat - Australia's Premier Chess Forum
Now check this out, these three know-all ninkinpoops put poop on me over there when I came up with a brilliant solution to prevent a repeat of the ...... inicident for withdrawing from a tournament, where rating norms maybe could not be earnt, and lot of money, time and effort potentially wasted. As well as the withdrawer being barred from future such tourneys for a year. My idea was for substitute players, but all these knockers named above could not bear to tolerate that a simple journeyman could re-invent the wheel - and scorn me they did. Then lo & behold, my mate - Max Illingworth, dropped the bombshell that substitute players are already used in some grandmaster tourneys incase of non-attendance. All RW could say is that ensure that nobody gets sick and that they all turn up - who can guarantee that nobody gets sick? Is he God? eat your heart out losers - I will see you in a few weeks - when John Lennon's love will welcome us to hug and embrace again Triumphalist horns, bugles, flutes are going full strength Last edited by antichrist : 08-11-2011 at 11:39 PM |

[Today 05:31 PM] antichrist: some topish players, maybe approaching retirement age and are slowing down, would be happy to be a stand in if necessary, they would happily hang around and view top games and enjoy social games etc.. some such players like to be feel needed again, they would not normally want to play the full tourney. They could be itching to get into a game after drolling over the other boards, I would be. Look how Max Fuller came back and wiped shirty out, the stuff of legends
[Today 05:07 PM] Kevin Bonham: and what Max is talking about is different and i just explained that too. he is talking about reserves who can be included at the start of the tournament if a player decides not to play - very different from adding reserves mid-event [Today 05:06 PM] Kevin Bonham: AC it has nothing to do with norms as i already explained |

It is not "very different." In fact, it is similar. Kevin you are intellectually dishonest. Shut up.

[Today 06:05 PM] Kevin Bonham: and AC how many toppish 2000 strength retirement age players do you think there are in queensland who might be available for such a thing?
AC that is only a moot point. There are "7"states in Australia of which Qld is only one, there are about 200 countries in the world that Oz is only one. If the law is good then you have it there just in case it can be utilised. But you just want to put up objections to the death. Look instead at how few FIDE-rated tournaments in ""outlying"" places, and see the devastation that could be caused if such a tourney was sabotaged (even accidentally by illness for example). There is good will in chess, SOME people, may not be you, would not mind being called out to make up the numbers for an important event. Lloyd Fell, whose chess was his life, I am sure would not have minded for the past few decades of his life. The three of you are so uninspiring you deserve such tourneys to go off the rails - you remind of those local govt councilors who are only their to get their names in the paper, they actually resist doing somethiing constructive greater than it would be to do the job. |

More and more Queenslanders refusing to play under Garvin's stick. Last edited by Gold Coast : 08-12-2011 at 12:18 AM |
