Default The Victorian week in chess - trial posting.

This is a test posting. There may be errors. Do people think that this is a good idea. Clubs who have not sent their 2010 calendars to Gerrit Hartland may not have their events listed.

Default Great work!

David,

Please keep this up! Somebody shouldve done this years ago! This is very important for Victorian chess and Victorian chess clubs. Now people can easily find out what is on and where in Victoria on any given day of the week. It would be particularly useful for international and interstate visitors who are only here for short term stays, but also for locals who simply get the urge to play chess on a night that their own club doesnt meet. Keep up the great work!

Default Seems like a good idea!

Just seconding Grant - looks like a winner. Small quibble - some better formatting would not go astray - time/where/what on one line perhaps? Club names are also probably a bit cryptic to those not in the know - some legend/web links to add?

Default formatting etc

Thank you Grant and Shump for the feedback. I have more work to do on this task. As I said it was a trial of the system. Next week should be a big week with Ranges springing into action.

I spoke to Geelong who are still working on their calendar. I also spoke to people at Croyden but could not get any definitive answers.

David

Great idea. If I may suggest some improvements (assuming you can get all the clubs to submit their calendars to you) ...

1. If you post this in 1 thread, that effectively becomes the first port of call for anything to do with chess in Victoria.

2. If you post this every Thursday in that thread, that changes peoples behaviour to automatically go to that thread to look for anything to do with chess in Victoria.

3. If you post this every Thursday a week ahead, that changes peoples behaviour to automatically go to that thread to plan for anything to do with chess in Victoria in the coming week.

Note: Substitute Thursday for an appropriate day.

Regards,
Mike

Default trial two no guarantees on content.

this is a second trial to improve the look of the postings. Please note that so far only one club has responded to my request to check the information before I post it. So please do not treat the information here as being correct. Check it on the individual club web pages. Nevertheless this is a much busier week with a great deal happening in various clubs and a weekender coming at Ranges.

Big improvement. If you can get it to look like this, it would be even better. Not sure if your calendar program can output them on a single line. If not, you can ignore this back-seat driver...

What about something like this

Kyle's New Web Site

PS..This is my own personal one that only has the dates for things I was interested in!

It is also missing things that I did not have dates for plus there has probably been some changes since I put it together.

You can give each club access to edit their own entries and show each club in a different colour.
Also nice add ons like the map link for each entry. (I still have to fix some of the map references)

Default Croydon Calendar.

Thanks to you guys.

Within twenty four hours of the Croydon AGM I received information on your calendar from three different sources.

Croydon Tournaments normally start at 19:45, not 20:00. You might want to check the official starting times.

What's the penalty if someone is 15 mintues late? Hopefully the director of play will cut them some slack!

Thank you very much Ian for your help.

Following are amended details of all Croydon events up to and including the 2011 Annual General Meeting. Is it too much to ask you to check that my work is correct? If it is I will send a copy to the Croydon Chess Club. I worked from the PDF version of the calendar. It would be best if my list is checked against the calendar on the web site as this would reveal any discrepancies between the web site calendar and the PDF calendar.
