Default Best Game Set

Hi everyone I am new to all of this but I was wondering if someone could please help me. I am a carer for a person that loves chess and I wondered what the best Chess Game Set available in Australia is at the moment. Also the best and easiest Chess Software for Apple Mac that he could use on the Computer. He isn't on the Internet yet but he will be at a later date. So I thought I could get him a set so that he could play in another room than his computer but also have the ability to use the computer as well. So to sum up I need -

Really good Chess Set
Software CD or DVD for Apple Mac
Best Online Chess Game

Thanks Heaps

My opinion is that you get the cheap plastic sets used by chess clubs. As far as a board is concerned the cardboard board used in many clubs are satisfactory. If you want to lash out buy a wooden board. Check if there is a shop or chess club in your area which sells equipment. It should not be difficut to find one.

As far as playing on the internet there are lots of sites. One really good site is FICS. A commercial site is ICC which is exellent. Both allow you to download MAC software that makes playing on-line much easier.

My preference is Bloodfist Makhaira and Makhaira of the Bloodmoon, but that's because my WE is an alt. If it weren't, I'd probably use Bloodfist Makhaira and The Dreadkeeper's Fang.
