Yeah so with no-wai, because the settings for the DNS were not done properly, the host didn't have anywhere to forward the html pages to. If the host is down, or their hosting plan has expired, it will forward the user to a search page like the one we're seeing now.

There will be several prizes once again, and these will be announced in due course.

The raffle will be drawn on Monday April 19th - 15 minutes before the beginning of the final round of the MCC Championship!

The 2009 MCC Building Fund appeal made possible many structural, safety and cosmetic improvements at the MCC including the following:
-A new electrical switchboard
-A new mural on the outside of the building
-New carpet
-New guttering on the outside of the building
-A new couch
-Updated honour boards
-Repairs to the numerous broken windows
-New required office equipment
-A new website
While safety issues have been addressed first, we hope to spend the money collected from the 2010 raffle on cosmetic improvements at MCC.

First Prize: An hour of coaching from each of the following coaches.
GM Darryl Johansen
IM Guy West
IM Robert Jamieson
IM James Morris
IM Leonid Sandler
FM Michael Baron
FM Bill Jordan
FM Grant Szuveges
Carl Gorka
Jesse Jager
Malcolm Pyke
Pano Skiotis
David Cordover
Frank Meerbach

Other prizes: to be announced

Tickets: $2 per ticket

Enquiries: Grant Szuveges 0401-925-075 or the clubrooms 9416-3149
The MCC has just confirmed that Nick Speck will be the 15th coach offering an hour of coaching to the winner of the raffle! Nick has been overseas so it took a bit longer to confirm his participation. Great to have him onboard once again!

All future competitions held from MCC should now feature the board 1 game live from the above link. We recently updated the system in which the computer's received the moves and can now present the games from the "bunker room" where the top 6 boards have been traditionally held.

The Monday night tournaments (currently board 1 of the City of Melbourne Open) starting at 7:15pm, the occasional Thursday night tournament starting from 7:30pm, and the Saturday allegros from 2pm will be available to view from this week onwards.

Haven't board one games always been broadcast on the link above?

allegro games have occasionally been broadcast and 2/5 rounds of the city of melbourne open have been broadcast (of which we had to move the board to a location where the cable could reach a computer. This is not the case anymore and we have returned the board 1 back to the "bunker" with the other top boards where it has traditionally been located.

In that case I welcome the new development.

Default Exclusive Smerdon interview on MCC website

The MCC website is now displaying player interviews. I hope to interview quite a number of people throughout the year and the first cab off the rank is GM David Smerdon. To see the interview, go to Welcome to the Melbourne Chess Club

Doesnt anybody out there have an opinion about this?

Grant

My feedback is this:
  • my first attempt (11/6/10) to go to your link, struck a problem because my Browser setting did not display the Enter site link; so that was the end of the search.
  • my second attempt (19/6/10) only occurred because you put this BUMP in the Ozchess thread, and now I see that there is more to the MCC site than just a front page with a LOGO.
  • Nice interview, but I wonder how many folk are inclined to move away from the portals like chesschat and ozchess, to follow links . I know JaK has recently written that he does not follow links in posts that take him away from the portal. Even firegoat's signature line hints at a similar need to have a correct distribution strategy for a product.
  • The question I would have liked seen put to the GM is what learning steps is he going to pursue to take 'the next step up'.
