Opening Challenge

Hi,

I have this idea. We get a group of people with ICC accounts and we commit to studying and playing an opening as a group. The opening can be anything, all we need to do is agree too choose it as a group. We then place some lines in the new pgn game viewer and constantly work on analyising interesting positions in the thread. Hopefully this will generate feedback amongst each other where we get to prove and improve on ideas. Importantly as a group we should learn quite a bit if we share our viewpoints with each other.

Anybody interested?

cheers,

That sounds like a great idea. My ICC account has expired but I may be willing to get a renew it if there is enough interest.

Well I recently got an ICC account and would be interested if enough interest was shown but it wouldn't have to be exclusive to ICC accounts would it? FICS allows you to save and view games as well, as can be seen in the training journals. Is anyone else still interested or has this died?

I know someone else who would probably be interested in this as long as we do it on the free chess club instead of icc.

This sounds like a lot of fun. So what opening would we be studying?

probably we would need an opening for white. I recommend the Ruy Lopez as that is one of the more natural openings.

Yeah but something more adventrous might be more fun.. like a gambit of some sort, possibly even the kings gambit.

The Spanish opening (Ruy Lopez) is a great opening for a straight up fight, that's why I like it. I think it would be a great opening to ponder or any King's pawn opening would also be good.
