Crown David Flude Chess Journal

Attached is a game I played In The Seniors World Cup preliminary round. My opponent is very strong. He is easily winning the group.

Have a long look at the final position and see if you can make progress for either player.

Just looks like an equal ending where the only one who can lose is you if you slip up. Good work though.

Question, isn't Qh4 more thematic for this opening? Then after Bh6 he doesn't have Nh5.

For example:

1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 d6 3.f4 g6 4.Nf3 Bg7 5.Bc4 Nc6 6.0-0 Nf6 7.d3 0-0 8.Qe1 e6 9.Bb3 Nd4 10.Nxd4 cxd4 11.Ne2 Qb6 12.Qh4 Bd7 f5 exf5 exf5 Bxf5 Rxf5 gxf5 Bh6 Bxh6 Qxh6

Where after Ng3, black has some serious problems holding the kingside together. after Nxf5 or Nh5, black has to defend g7, and if Ne8 black can never play Kh8, and if black moves the knight, and then plays Kh8 and Rg8, there's always Bxf7 winning the exchange back with an attack.

Nice game!

That is excellent David. I especially liked the annotations!

12. Qh4 is a really bad mistake. 12....Nxe4 13.dxe4 d3+ and black is better.

What about a Kh1, Qh4 plan then?
