In an effort to inflate his fragile ego, Kevin Bonham has posted this game - a win for him against a very weak Tasmnaian player. I didn't know Kevin's situation had become so dire that he'd need to put up games against weak opponents to improve his self esteem, but alas, it appears so.

Also, users can click on the upsidedown blue triangle for the alternate line of a mate Kevin missed (unsurprisingly).

Yeah...... Obviously he hasn't had a decent win for a while his opponent played terribly..

Sure enough Kevin has taken great exception to my admonishment that he should desist gloating about his win over a weak patzer. Kevin then makes reference to my own rating which, if the ELO rating system had been used since I was in the high 1700's, would still place me in the 1600's despite my poor form over the board in the past couple years.

Furthermore, Kevin fails to mention that my chess achievements include beating Dennis Boumistrov, former Australian Juniors Champion, and also won the Tin Cup in 2004 - the same year IM Ly Maulthun competed in it!

I'd like to know how many Australian Junior Champs Kevin has knocked off? I'm guessing less than one.

Wrong, you would be around 1550.

Molthoun Ly was not an IM in 2004 and in fact still is not an IM.

When the Tin Cup was held in Feb 2004, Ly was only rated 1843 FIDE

I was rounding up to the nearest 100. So then, yes, 1600 is for the most part not to far from the mark - because 1550 rounded up to the nearest 100 is 1600

Well then, he shouldn't have been playing in it because it was supposed to be limited to players with a rating of 1750 or less. In fact the following year I was rated 1752 and they wouldn't let me play because I was two (2) points over the limit.

Best Regards,

AO

ps- Ly has 2 International Master norms - did you even know that? This makes him Australia's next most probable person to be awarded the IM title.

Yes continue grasping at staws.

You need to read what was written. I said his FIDE was 1843. The Tin cup entry is based on ACF rating and his ACF rating was under 1750.

I am well aware of his norms, however having some norms and getting awarded the IM title are two different things. He also would need a rating of 2400+.

Of course with the changes to the FIDE rating system that comes into effect from 1st July 2009, getting your rating up quickly will be easier (and conversely going down will be quicker).
