You have my vote on this sentiment. I would be keen to see others express a view.

I think the shout box should be for everyone.

Just keep in mind that 1-post trolls and spammers will take advantage of this ... so as long as you're prepared to "activate mod powers" to remove their trash, I have no objection.

Okay.

Currently the Shoutbox is there for everyone to use once they log in. Nothing will change in that respect. As I said, I am easy.

"Trash?" Personally, I think the trash should stay, it is flushed away with a few more posts. Only exception would be for the worst of the worst personal attacks, which is not btw mere abuse.

I don't understand this post Frosty, more explanation is required please

Also, as for trolls, I have noticed that without certain thugs as moderators, no trolls on OzChess have materialized! I guess that's what happens on a forum where everyone is friendly and civil towards one another.

I think Watto changed her name to Platypus or vice versa once. That's the only one that comes to mind.

I just meant that, for the sake of the regular users of the board, when there is clear evidence of:

-- spamming posts (e.g. "buy viagra", "russian wives", or whatever); or

-- trolling posts (e.g. examples such as "Happy Friend" over at the other place)

then the mods/admins here ought to remove their trash a.s.a.p. so that it does not clag up the board. Some people will register an account and immediately post crap everywhere (a hit-n-run incident). If shoutbox or other privileges are available immediately upon registration, there is is additional space available for them to draw attention to themselves.

I don't have a problem with whatever decision you guys choose to make. Its your board!

I agree.

Indeed, so far we have only had one spammer who replicated his post about 10 times in different subforums before I was on top of it and banned him (not easy when I am busy at work). Without a minimum number of posts needing to be made before a spammer has access to the shoutbox presents a potential problem. I think we should be more proactive in solving these problems before they present themselves.

I will see what Matt has to say about it, but I kind of like the 5 post minimum requirement, as a security feature and a privilege to reward members.

Default Who is Little Black Cat?

Shout by Little Black Cat

pm/ Arrogant-One: Thank you for changing my handle here Alex and thank you also for not telling anyone that I might be Bill G... if Sweeney found out, he would swear at me in a most unseemly manner! :P
Nice try mate.

Firstly, I already did an IP search on you showing your IP address to be Melbourne based. Billy Bot lives in Sydney, or around Sydney.

Secondly, Billy Bot has too much to post on OzChess, although he does like the new features like private shouts, You Tube tags (which were used here before CC), and the new Flag feature.

Incidentally, your shout did not work because you used a : when you should have used a ;

Regards

Default Internet Chess Club - Link Exchange

Good news everyone.

The Internet Chess Club has reciprocated and linked OzChess in their Chess links. As ICC is a well established and highly respectable chess playing site with considerable traffic, the link exchange between us will certainly have flow on effects in terms of SEO and possibly new members.

I think everyone here deserves a big pat on the back, as OzChess wouldn't be what it is today without its loyal and valuable members.

AO

ps - My handle on ICC is Kings-Gambit if anyone is up for a game.
