Default OTB in the 21st Century

Chess has a long history. The way it has been played has evolved along with technology and cultural imperatives. Had it not evolved, it would have become an even smaller niche pursuit. What we currently see in the World Championships' details, internet, and transfer tournaments are indicators of evolution. Our own National events are also feeling the pressures of change.

Personally, I would love to have played at the 2008 (in Parramatta.) However, a one game per day format is out of the question for me. I know it is a huge impediment also for many players in my club and others. The main issues are:
Time: Competing priorities.
Accommodation: Cost for many.

I think it is a mistake to try an imitate World Championship structures in/for a chess backwater dominated by club players. Long drawn out events simple do not supply the experience required by a huge proportion of us. The ACF should be making decisions that grow chess, put bums on seats. With the exception of weekly games, no tournament in Australia should have fewer than 2 games every day.

Value for money, or go out of business.
