Default Feedback and Requests

Hi AO,

I could not find a feedback thread, so I've started one here. Hope that's ok?

Just want to say that I think this forum is doing very well. I was concerned at the start that it would just be a wingers forum, full of half baked gripes, but it has clearly moved on from this starting point. The steady growth of members and and growing diversity of topics shows real promise. In particular, I really like the correspondence chess interface (maybe we'll see a tournament soon?).

I have two related questions. Why does a post have to have at least ten letters? & Why is there a upper limit of two images (smilies) per post?

I have both of these restrictions a bit of a pain (they are not on CC) and would like to see them removed, if possible.

I hope this feedback is helpful.

Regards,
Egor.

hi Egor
I am guessing that these are standard parameter-settings in the software. AO has been very helpful to change other settings that I have drawn to his attention for fine-tuning; you are correct, a thread is a good idea.

Hi Egor and Moz,

Thanks Egor for the positive feedback.

When I started this forum my goal was only to provide an alternative to the established and chess admin top heavy forum known as chesschat. I knew some whinging about the mods there would occur here, but I think its been fairly minimal so far and the criticism has largely been based on issues and not playing the man, so to speak.

I also wanted OzChess to be a real and genuine chess resource for the benefit of all Australian chess players. Chesschat perhaps started out with that mission statement, but I think it has strayed into being more of a social club and social discussion forum with maybe 50% of the posts there being chess related. While I don't really care if this forum goes down the same path and ultimately becomes more of a social debate forum than a chess forum, as far as I am concerned I will try to keep my posts primarily filled with chess related content.

Moz is right about the default settings. Slowly, when members bring new issues to my attention, I try to change the settings to meet people's expectations. Usually this takes a couple days as I need to ask VBulletin's support team how to do most of the changes. I will try to allow more smilies and images to be placed in people's posts. Thanks for starting a feedback thread, that was a good idea.

AO

Your welcome.

Another comment & question.

I like how you have "members" & "active members", but I would like to know how it is decided which is which?

It would be nice to know for certain, but only if you have the time.

Hi AO,
I had some trouble castling in my correspondence game, can you explain the right way to do it?
Egor.

Hi Egor

I also had this difficulty at first but Matt was able to figure it out. It requires a double move, for instance by typing (e1,g1)(h1,f1)

If you only moved the king then your opponent should be able to make the next move and then when it is your turn again you could hopefully make the double move to complete the castling process.

I have decided to stop posting on chess forums, I've realized that I just don't enjoy it anymore. So, apart from finishing my correspondence game, I am no longer reading or posting on this or any chess forum.
AO, this is not a negative reflection on your forum, I wish you success with it.
Egor.

Not a problem Egor,

Members here are free to come and go as they see fit. I would hope though, as opposed to completely not posting anywhere, that you would occassionally post once in a while - if that suits you. If not, I hope to someday play you over the board and chat with you then

All the Best Egor,

AO
