FACT 2. We don't know yet who that somebody is.

Fact 3. This example is almost the same as Phil707's complaint on Chesschat.

Fact 4. There has already been moral outrage directed towards Ozchess about this incident on Chesschat.

Question? Is it morally and ethically consistent for people on Chesschat to attack Phil707 and defend your disappointment with a post here Phil?

I think not.

You may be right, but this incident is still independently interesting. The person responsible may have been conducting an intellectual challenge. I hope that if they apologise you won't think to bad of them.

I don't agree with this statement. I don't think the administrators have done anything wrong. They took the registration in good faith. But I do hope they resolve the conflicting situation in a way that satisfies you.

cheers Fg7
FG7,
1 Correct

2 We may never know.

3 Not quite, it is a facility on this board that anyone can post as an unregistered user, using whatever name they like. Robert J Fischer may yet make another internet appearance

4 ?

Question. Two wrongs never make a right.

Yes, it is interesting as there are any number of possible explanations as to why someone would wish to act in this manner. Whether or not I accept any apology, though I doubt any will ever happen, would depend on those reasons and what validity I felt they held.

The administrators never took any registration. Try it for yourself, log in as a guest, and post as an unregistered user, you will see that you can put any name you like in the account name. This is a serious flaw, it leaves the board open to any number of methods of attack mentionable. Most experienced hackers could soon program a bot capable of writing enough nonsensical posts
to send this forum spiralling into internet history. If that is an acceptable risk according to management, then I for one won't feel any sympathy if any such event should happen.

AO,
What's going on here?
Can you shed any light?

Regarding Fact 3
"This example is almost the same as Phil707's complaint on Chesschat"

I would point to one significant difference:
PhilB's statement has been posted here close to verbatim.
While we may not admire the surrepticious manner in which this was done but we must agree that it is hardly any gross travesty of the truth.
PhilD's complaint was quite different in that respect.

Default Unregistered Guests Posting Rights?

What was said in the post in question before Matt editted it?

The reason unregistered guests can post is because I thought it would increase posting rates on the site generally.

For a while Pax posted using this method, and I would have dearly loved to end the practise at that point but it would have looked as though I was trying to 'ban' pax indirectly, so the capability of unreg'd users posting was still allowed.

This is the third instance of someone posting under someone else's name actually, I readily took care of the other instances. I also used the method once for a Kevin Bonham post just to perturb him (worked a treat) although Kevin registered and then deleted that post. Any registered member can delete or edit the posts of unregistered members.

Now, it would seem that there is no identifyable reason anymore, to maintain unregistered posters ability to post. Shall we remove that facility ?

BTW this is all off the CC Bullying topic.

We do seem to have wandered in extremis from the strictness of ACCF to open slather here.
An easy decision in my view; the unregistration is giving problems with no benefits.

(I would like to see the results of the investigation eventually.)

How so? Gensis was.... >?

Hi Phil

I suspect the culprit is the same person who has tried this twice before. I am sure I'd be just as annoyed as you are if it had happened to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the fool has a first name of Howard, but simply can't prove that and am not really inclined after a full day at work to fuss about it. As for your other assertion that I should be checking to verify if people really are who they say they are, well mate, I'm afraid 100 points of ID isn't needed to open an OzChess account, or a CC one.

Best

Yeah, G'day... lbc here and I'm an unregistered poster.

To be honest, I was initially shocked at the desecration of my above post by the Rainbow Chicken Warrior.

My first thought, upon reading the above, was that one of the moderators must have done it, because only moderators have the power to edit another's post ... and I thought the entire moral substance upon which this chess forum was provided had gone up the spout!

I come from chess forums where such behaviour would be considered the sole realm of the moderators...

This narrowed it down to four suspects who might seek to antagonise me: Alex (unlikely, given that he wishes to encourage new posters here), Matt Sweeney who may be likely to post something like that as a joke after a few beers... and after a few beers, would most likely be unable to spell a word like "psychedlic" so corectly. [sorri mat! ]

Trevor Stanning, [my original suspect!] who is perhaps the most likely of all to exercise his sense of humour in such a fashion... especially when given a target which he suspects will take the jest in the fullness of a joke and bear no malice... and of course, Kevin Bonham.

Now, whilst Dr Bonham is not listed as a moderator of this site, he does seem to visit every day ... yet he never seems to post! (Hmmmm...) Dr Bonham has mentioned in the past that he once made himself available for surreptitious "mod duty" on a chess forum, where a Moderator had provided him with their log in & password details ... one cannot help but wonder if say, Alex, Matt or Trevor may have provided Dr Bonham with such details so that he can mod whilst they're snoozing!

Yours sincerely,

Smile Meanwhile, whilst I'm here... here's a joke about Roosters!

A new rooster was introduced to the chook pen... his only male rival being an elderly rooster.

"Hey sonny", the oldie said, "these hens are all mine!"

"I challenge you for them!", strutted the young turk!

"OK, but at leasht let me keep my favourites!" becried the old rooster...

"No!, exclaimed the young turk, I want them all!"

"Letsh have a race then", suggested the elderly rooster, "three laps around the chookpen, the first one home gets all the hens... however, as I am so much older than you, you must give me a half lap start."

The young Turk... err, Rooster agreed ... and the two set off on their race...

During the first lap, it became clear that the young rooster was gaining on the old rooster, and the old rooster began squawking... "Baaaawk! Baaaawk!"

On the second lap, the young rooster came even closer to the old rooster, with the oldie beginning to bawk louder: "Baaawk! Baaawk! Baaaawk!!"...

On the third lap, the young rooster had almost caught up to the older rooster, with the oldie screaming louder and louder "BAAWWWK! BAAAAWWWK!!! BAAAWWWWKKKK!!"....

Suddenly the farmer came out with his shotgun and shot the young rooster...

"Bloody hell!", he cried, "that's the third gay rooster this month!"

Why do some names have asterisk's next to them (and are in a smaller font)?
