Default Shortest Chess Game - Paul Keres vs Arlamovsky

Have you guys seen a chess game shorter than this one? Well I haven't, but perhaps it is because I haven't seen many chess games myself.

Anyway Paul Keres was an Estonian chess grandmaster who was born 93 years ago and passed away when he was 70. Its sad many Estonians haven't heard about him much, but nevertheless he was a great chess player of his time so I thought I'd mention his name here and see who has heard about him or who has read his books.

I did a little search and I found out that his used a dashing style of play. I guess it means aggressive and you know what they say - the best defense is offense. Oh btw he is on our money too (until the Euro will be adopted here of course)

Paul Keres, on why he never became a world champion -
"I was unlucky, just like my country."

If you knew the history of Estonia you would know what he was talking about. We were annexed by Russia, invaded by Germans in WW2 etc.

Yeah, I agree - That's pretty cool putting a Chess Grandmaster on your currency. One can only imagine what the Australian five dollar note would look like with Purdy or Rogers on it.

hahahaha I don't think the elder would like being replaced, he worked hard to replace the queen on the older five note many of which are still in cirulation today.

Btw AO I saw your game against the Egyptian - it was pretty well done. I guess he just thought you wanted to bring out your queen for support, but you used it to check-mate him instead. For that game only I would put AO on AU's 5 dollar bill It's because I love to watch games like this. Of course I wouldn't want to lose in 6 turns myself, even if my opponent was a world champion. It would simply be too embarrassing for me At least the Egyptian got a good lesson, he will probably not forget.

Thanks Jazz,

Yes - I was pretty pleased with myself after that. But don't forget, the very next game I beat him just 12 moves! Presumably if he had played me a 3rd time, I would have beaten him in 18 moves ... and so forth.

Wow that is awesome. If only chess players could get that much respect everywhere. It is a great honour to be but on your country's currency
