Hear hear!
A good puzzle a day can definitely keep your wits sharp on the field of chess! I have a few more up my sleeve that I came across whilst traversing the web, so I will be sure to share them with you to further challenge your chess knowledge!

Default New Puzzle #4

Another much nicer puzzle with thanks to Dejan Antic

White to play and mate in 4, very hard, it took the ergas people quite a lot of time to work it out!

Any chance of a hint, this does look tough because the pawn check means the king will escape!

For a tough puzzle like this I would like a clue as well. I'm still thinking the pawn moves first though.

Best Regards,

That seems to put a rook on h5.
And what about getting the other on f5.

1.Rd1+ Ke6

Has to be the first moves because:

1.Bxc6+ would work if the king has to take but it doesn't
1.Bc4+ is just suicide
Anything else and black get perpetual check

But I cannot see where it is heading

2.Bc4+ otherwise white gets perpetualed
2...d5
Now:
3.bxc8=B+ Qxc8
4.exd6+ e.p. Kd7 is no good

3.exd6+ e.p. would work but black plays Kd7 check! If it wasn't check then b8=N would be mate

I can't see it

Yeah there is a mistake, I put it into fritz and it had mate in 7 after:

1.Rd1+ Ke6
2.bxc8=Q Rh1+
3.Bf1 Qe7
4.Qd8 Rxf1+
5.Kxf1 Qxd8
6.Rd6#

Maybe you should move the king to f1 instead of e1

The puzzle is 100% correct. Could perhaps Mr Fritz be forgetting that en passant is possible?

Grandmaster Alex will give you a hint if you want it, but if you look you cannot be my padawan anymore

Spoiler for Hint for Chess Puzzle:
First move is castling long, and mating move is promoting to a Knight

Ah, yes, but what did you tell FRITZ?
