Question Caro-Kann Aggressive?

Is it possible to be aggressive using the Caro Kann? I'm reasonably aggressive and I like it, but many people say it's passive.

Its more aggressive than the French, however, the French is more solid and still offers good attacking chances for black.

My very limited knowledge of it formed the opinion that it was a bit dangerous for black, maybe that is only my limited understanding

The Caro-Kann can be played aggressively in a number of ways. Two examples are the positions in the Capablanca Variation where both players castle on opposite sides, and 4...Nf6 5.Nf6 gf6, accepting an inferior pawn structure for dynamic counterchances on the kingside and in the centre.

What about Gurgenidze line? (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 b5)
any opening can be played in an aggressive manner, even though Karo-Kann has fewer sharp lines.

By the Capablanca variation, I guess Garetoe is speaking about the following line:
1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Bf5

which is more active than the alternative 4... Nd7
However, after 4... Bf5 you opponent can choose not to have a sharp game and is not forced to delve into the opposite castle battle, so it is more active than actually aggressive IMO.

Caro-can't is for wimps. Real chess players play the Sicilian!

To repeat the sentiment of my post above, the Caro-Kann is a much more aggressive opening than the French, although slightly less solid as well. Me personally, I prefer the safety of the French fortress.

The Caro-Kann is aggressive in the hands of an aggressive player.
