The success of the endgame group has inspired me to try something new. Starting on Wednesday 27th October at 7.30pm and then running every second week, an Openings Group will be meeting at MCC. Come and talk about general principles, specific theoretical lines, repertoires, transitional and transpositional ideas and much much more.
This group is free to MCC members and $5 to non members, essentially the price of a visitors fee to the club

Great!! An idea might be to designate a system every couple of weeks so we can study up/bring in games and maybe even have a bash at a fixed opening or two. Pretty sure I can compete with you lot if I know the line a week in advance

Thematic opening nights are certainly something we will look at, but there are other issues that can be looked at. Like the endgame night, I will be looking at linking theory with practice.

Actually while we're on the topic of openings, do you still have that semi-slav game where white sacrificed a piece that you showed me around the start of the year? Think it was in the moran system or something?

I don't think so. I think Gelfand might have been the black side. it was something like Bxc4 bxc4 Nxc4 and we were trying to work out if white had enough compensation.
