And a big thankyou to the endgame group for keeping things going last Wednesday while I was in a committee meeting.
Thanks especially to Michael baron who I believe led the group.

Surprisingly, I have often felt at home in the endgame, and would rate my skills there even stronger than the opening and middle games. Perhaps less pieces = greater simplicity, and simple chess is often effective/winning chess.

Some horrible pawn endgames were looked at tonight which nobody found as simple as they appear.
This group still meets every Wednesday and you only have to look at the performances of regular members such as Simon Scmidt, Frank Lekkas and Domogoj Dragicevic, in the MCC ch to see how important regular study of the endgame is. Everybody is welcome, there will be material to help beginners and other stuff to challenge masters

Yep, it's still going strong. No endgame group tonight because of a committee meeting, but next Wednesday at 7.30pm it's on

The Endgame Group looked at Shirov's fantastic win in the Shanghai Masters against Wang Yue. Bill Jordan will be running the group for the next 3 weeks while I'm in England. Feel free to head along and practice your endgames with one of the strongest players in the MCC.

MCC Endgame Group will be on this Wednesday from 7.30pm, but will be moving to fortnightly for the rest of the year to accomodate a new openings group

Decent turn out last night, good to see newbies Laurie Dalton and Sylvester Urban there
![]() We looked at a number of recent fairly simple rook endgames ( ) just to get back in the mood. Check it out here.
