Default Broken Mate in 3 #5

Ho ho ho ho ho, happy to read that title? As usual, weird mate in 3 puzzle. But this is easier than before.

Black : Ka1, Bc1
White : Kh8, Qg5, Rc8 ... etc

Good luck!

Okay, I have put the puzzle up in the pgn viewer to allow people to move the pieces around. Also, I am very glad to solve another Brokenwall problem!

My first attempts is this:

1. Qg2 Ba3 2. Qg1+ Bc1 3. Qxc1 checkmate!

Did I miss anything?

AO: Seems to me that after 1.Qg2 Bd2! is quite good defence, opening way to b2 for bK.

As another note, there are 7 promoted white pieces in the position, but only 6 white pawns could have promoted .....

I think I got it . Will not give the solution, but a bit of description of it.
The first move creates a terrible threat to which black has but one defence.
The second 'star' move creates a zugzwang.
All but one black second moves allow the original threat to happen.
The remaining defence allows a rather neat mate due to self-pin.
Mmm Cephus, how if:
1.Rb2 Kxb2!

Well done Mr.Mip, but i am not surprised u solved easily since you are a great chess puzzle master. The reason why there are more than 16 white pieces is to confuse solver.

It was old game in indo, pay Rp 2000/try for fee (1 us$ =Rp 10000) and try to checkmate Black to win 2 packs of ciggarettes (= Rp 15000)

This one really made me think, and I don't think I quite have it yet. I was about to give up completely.

1. Bac4 (creates mate threat at a2) Bd2
2. Nb4 (covers the b2 square, and now Black must move his bishop off the second rank) Bxc3
3. Qg1+ (the bishop at c3 is pinned and cannot defend)

I think again 2...Kb2! is the great defender.
Not sure how Nb4 'covers' the b2 square? Perhaps you meant some other move? Anyway 1.Bac4 do not cut it...

Again 2...Kb2 (rather than 2...Bxg5) will escape mate next move....
The idea 1...Bd2 and 2...Kb2 is a great defence plan, which any solution should address.

I would be at sea for many a month trying to solve this problem! Some chess problems are just too difficult.
