Reluctantly I have to agree. I also admit to plugging this problem into Fritz and Fritz not finding a mate in 3, only a mate in 4.

Fritz? how about Deep Blue? Trust me, there is a mate in 3 moves. These are psychological puzzles type. Just relax and you will find it.

Yeah, I agree BW. A murky hint: The first move is what the chess instructors warn about. They say it is 'dim'. The second white move you can then find by yourself - though it ain't easy...

I will give another clue, it is vital that the Rc8 rook block off the c file so the king cannot escape.
