If you mean the CV website, then I can suggest some improvements....from a purely MCC point of view.

First, the correct web address linking to the MCC could be put on the site, instead of the old one which is no longer functional.

Secondly, the MCC calendar could be placed on the current CV site, instead of selected parts of the MCC calendar. It appears that BHCC have a full calendar displayed, while MCC certainly doesn't. Surprise, surprise.

If this is going to clog up the calendar too much, then how about some direct links to individual clubs calendars from the calendar page?

The 'real McCoy' is what we want, but it is hardly what we have, is it?

My comment was in the context of the 2010 CV calendar. From post http://www.ozchess.com.au/chess-vict...html#post22170, it is still in draft. It make sense to have it all in 1 concise calendar for all the clubs to avoid clashes and for users to have a good idea of where the games are. If the draft is not the real McCoy then would you abandon the ideal all together?

If all our events aren't to be represented, then this calendar is not the 'real McCoy' to the MCC. Our calendar displays all our events, so if CV isn't prepared to do this, then the least they could do is link to our calendar page.

And if the current or immediately past CV exec's can't get the right web address for one of their members it doesn't inspire confidence in the 'real McCoy'.

Mike, I would be more than happy to have a 'real' CV website representing all of Victorian Chess Affairs, but at the present, the CV website falls short.

Default Not quite correct but some good points.

Did you ask to have it changed?

I checked the Chess Victoria calendar to check whether Box Hill events were shown correctly. Approximately a third of our events were not shown.

This is a short term solution but worth doing if we cannot do better and we can and will..

As the person responsible for constructing the Box Hill Calendar I know what I want but, I need help with data entry and I have to convince other people to help.

I think that there is a big data entry job required at the Melbourne Chess Club. If you have not already done so why not volunteer to help .

I wish you all well in new chess year, make bygones be bygones and try to be constructive. I don't how NSWCA is going to reconcile with acidic Presi and vice presi?

Everyone got an email from Grant earlier this year with our new web address. I would have assumed someone in CV would have changed it then.

After a day of thinking about this, I'm not even 100% certain whether CV should be making a calendar with every event of every club on it. It might be somewhat cluttered, so I'm now leaning towards links to individual club calendars. Of course, the clash of events is an issue as the tournament calendar is pretty packed, so I suppose CV should set themselves a goal of finalising dates for their major events for 2011 by perhaps the end of October 2010, which gives the rest of us time to avoid clashes.

I have volunteered to help, and have essentially assembled the current calendar with the help of other committee members. I would gladly help with some data entry for you at BHCC tomorrow when I'm at the tourney if you want

I am really glad you changed your position on this.
I was quite disappointed with the 'Surprise, surprise' part of your post yesterday.
Leonid suggested today that CV would
  1. definitely calendarise all major events,
  2. input all material, including non-major events; and test if the detail becomes too cluttered. I am hopeful of a workable complete composite.

I think clubs need to have their own, complete calendars.

CV might diarise their open events including weekenders, and link to clubs's calendars.

Has anyone tried exporting ical-type calendars to a website? Thunderbird with Lightning, or Sunbird should do the trick for those without the latest OS X.

If you don't know what Thunderbird is, do yourself a favour and go look at mozilla.org. While you're at it, check that you have the latest Firefox, Thunderbird and anything else there takes your fancy. All free of charge. Generally better than MS equivalents for most users.

I have setup a (FREE) Calendar for every club in Victoria using Google Calendars.

To login you just use the email address clubname@chessclub.com.au and your password (clubs will need to contact me for their default password).

This is then THEIR OWN calendar - easily embedded on their own website and also instantly and automatically updates the ChessClub.com.au calendar page -- people looking at the ChessClub.com.au calendar can filter out the events they don't want.

It is also important for clubs to be able to choose events to add to the broader Public Calendar (eg. open events, weekenders etc). This can be done from the Google Calendar through the email address as described above.

There are even help videos online at chessclub.com.au...

Wink VicChess AGM

Come to the VicChess AGM and watch:-

you becoming ineligible to vote despite being elected to represent your club

Another "representative" who is not even a member of your club voting FOR your club.

Watch Box Hill Chess Club claim they have a quorum with Canterbury and Dark Horse and their alleged 300 members steamroll every vote in THEIR favour.

...become part of the Gary Wastell clique.

Then watch him slander and spread rumours about you, while ignoring everyone who is not an acolyte.

Been there....
