Well you're a piece up so anything should win, however Rg2 seems most effective to me (immediate threat on Rxe2, followed up by R8g4 after the bishop leaves the diagonal).

A beautiful game where I make a mess of things in the opening, but generate enough of an attack to sail to victory. This game is also remarkable in demonstrating how a Queen is vastly superior to a piece and rook sometimes on a wide open board.
Enjoy everyone. This game I drop a piece early, and instead of getting upset, I simply play sound chess - aiming to keep the pieces on the board instead of trading them off, and playing quickly to build up time pressure on my opponent.
By the time he achieves a true endgame winning position he was desperately low on time. When he had about thirty seconds left I offered him a draw which he ignored, at his own peril. ![]() This is a game of perseverance down a piece, of making the most of what you have to create forced errors, and then pouncing on those errors to achieve victory. First decent scalp I have taken in a while. Let's hope I get my mojo back!

I was playing a GM today and missed a forced win from this position. Can you see it? Black to move.

My vote is Rh2+, then if Kxh2, Qx2+, K moves to h file and then Rh8+ seals the win (I think)
If 2 Nxh2 then Rxf2+ with double Q and R on the same rank that I think will lead to a win? Need to calc some more on this one. - DrJ |

He is correct! Shame I didn't find this variation in the three minutes I had. Would have been a nice GM scalp to add to my collection.
ps- Is it just me, or are we having problems with the pgn chess viewer again?

It was a bit funny - shifting the notation on the board when I viewed it.
Also - took me longer to find than 3 minutes. I looked at Rh2 initially and rejected it. I then thought Rh3 was the winning move Calculated out lots of variations. I eventually spotted that if white doesn't accept the sacrifice then black is in deep trouble (I think Qd6 is lethal - but would need to re-check). I also looked briefly at Rxf3, Qxf3 but couldn't seem to make these work as Black doesn't have any time to spare! DrJ |
