I'm shocked that I drew this. I wonder if I had any winning chances >_>

From this weeks endgame group:
All the positions I post are against Fritz 11 by the way. I seem to have no trouble drawing the game, but winning as white is a different story :\

I saw this game during the cup weekender. One of the Box Hill juniors was playing the black side of this game. I included just before everything gets swapped off and a few lines I added in that might be better for either side. Needless to say white missed several chances of winning and black missed the final surge.

The second and third pgn's include my various winning/drawing lines.

Why is this a draw? Isn't black totally crushing here?

No this is a well known draw. White just needs to make sure his king controls the square in front of the pawn, and with the right technique can create the "phillidor position".

It's only winning after 28. Rd5 as I pointed out.

Went on to win this ending. Was pretty sure I could convert since I had the two passed pawns he had to deal with. Opinions? Do you think I swapped into a drawn ending?

Check Gligoric vs Euwe game from 1953 (and read the comments!). One of the most instructional 4-3 rook ending.

A marvellous piece of end-game work. How do I view the comments?
