Default Previous winners. Box Hill Autumn Cup

The Box Hill Chess Club AUTUMN CUP gained prominence in 1993 as the Club copied a good naming idea from the Dandenong Chess Club, and we elevated a small Club event into the full focus of recording winners on a trophy. The first winner was David Flude and to commemorate the occasion he donated the materials for a handsome trophy which Life member Gordon Wilby turned from wood.
Although we copied the naming idea from the DCC we still have a bit to learn because we play our tournament mainly in summer, with the finish just in autumn.

Moz,
Any chance of posting the names of people committed to play in the Autumn Cup or is the list a bit rubbery? Thanks.

I don't think he should because if the list of names isn't good enough then a lot of people might become discouraged from entering the event!

I anticipate many will take the opportunity to enter on the first Club night for 2009, Friday 23rd of January. I will publish over the week-end.

This is indeed the case. The club captain decided that the donation should go towards providing free entries to the Autumn Cup for all BHCC and CJCC juniors who did so well in the Australian Junior, the Australian Open and the Queenstown Classic.
We hope to see big participation

Default Half-way to a ton.

33 entries has jumped to 50 entries after a ring-around 'happy near year campaign' by the Captain.
It seems some folk put their diary planning in hibernation during the hot spell over Xmas.

Anyhow, the big news is that former Australian Champion, Doug Hamilton, is an entrant.
Some juniors, having picked over the husks of Fludey and justaknight, may be looking for new pickings to enhance their rating; however, Doug showed some super form in the recent Australian Masters and just needs a little consistency back to get his name on the Autumn Cup trophy for the first time.

-------We are installing some new DGT cabling and broadband components during round 1. The aim is more reliable transmission of the feature game, but it may be a case of breaking eggs to make an omelette for round 1.

Default Hard to believe; it all happened so quickly.

I read that we ended with more than 70 entrants in the 2009 Box Hill Autumn Cup.

Before the start of play the MCC VP made the now well-known offer of 9 hours of coaching from 9 top players in Victoria. I saw many parents queuing to purchase the $2 raffle tickets. A very creative offer from one of our affiliated Melbourne Clubs.

Also, the Captain Gerrit Hartland took the opportunity to highlight excellent performances by CJCC juniors during Dec-jan events.

And then it was find your seat and eyes down.

A great start to the year for a suburban club.
