2008 Queensland Championship events
------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2008 QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIP, MAJOR AND MINOR Queensland Contract Bridge Club 67 Ipswich Road Woolloongabba 2008 QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIP (10 Player Round-Robin) Round 1: Sunday October 26th 10am Round 2: Sunday October 26th 3.30pm Round 3: Saturday November 1st 10am Round 4: Saturday November 1st 3.30pm Round 5: Sunday November 2nd 10am Round 6: Sunday November 2nd 3.30pm Round 7: Saturday November 8th 10am Round 8: Saturday November 8th 3.30pm Round 9: Sunday November 9th 12pm Time control: 40 moves in 90 minutes, followed by 30 minutes, with thirty-second increment from the first move till end of game. Entry fee: Adults: $70 Pensioners/Students: $50 Entries close: WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 22 Players rated over 2000 on the 2008 September ACF normal/classical rating list receive free entry. Entry fee: Adults: $50 Pensioners/Students: $40 Entries close: FRIDAY NOVEMBER 7 NO entries on the day! PRIZES 1ST: $200 2ST: $150 3RD: $125 Rating Groups (based on 10 players per group) 1ST: $100 in each rating group ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS Championship 1. Entrants shall be financial members of the Association. 2. 2007 Queensland Champion shall have right of entry (Stephen Solomon). 3. 2007 and 2008 Queensland Junior Champions shall have right of entry (Casey Barnard, Gene Nakauchi). 4. 2007 Queensland Reserve Champion shall have right of entry (Yi Liu). 5. A maximum of 2 places may be reserved for invited players to meet a specific need e.g., qualification for FIDE rating. 6. The remaining places shall be filled by the highest-rated players based on the current national rating list. 7. Should a vacancy occur at the commencement of the event, the vacancy shall be filled by the highest-rated available reserve or, if no reserves are available, by the highest-rated available entrant to the Queensland Major Championship. 8. Will be ACF, QJR and FIDE rated (if eligible) 9. In the event of a tie for first, playoffs will be held at a time and venue to be arranged by CAQ Council. Major 1. Entrants shall be financial members of the Association 2. Only players who are rated below the lowest ACF rated player in the Qld Championship are eligible to enter. 3. Since the preceding Queensland Major Championship, entrants must have played not less than fifteen games in tournaments approved by the Association. 4. Should a vacancy occur at the commencement of the event, the vacancy shall be filled by the highest-rated available reserve or, if no reserves are available, by the highest-rated available entrant to the Queensland Minor Championship. 5. Will be ACF and QJR rated. 6. In the event of a tie for first, playoffs will be held at a time and venue to be arranged by CAQ Council. 7. The winner will receive seeded entry to the next Queensland Championship Minor 1. Entrants shall be financial members of the Association 2. Entrants shall not be eligible for the Queensland Major Championship 3. Will be ACF and QJR rated. 4. In the event of a tie for first place, prize money will be shared. Sorry I missed your post Uki, just got back.
I might not have told you this but I have given up tournament chess, at least for a year or two. I simply wasn't getting the results over the board I wanted, and was getting frustrated because I didn't have the time to put into chess training which one needs to improve their play and their rating. I also saw my rating fall about 300 points as a result of not practising, and while there is no doubt in my mind that I could get back to the level I was at a few years ago, or even much farther, it isn't a priority for me anymore.
