Default 2008 Victorian Championship

The Chess Victoria web-site has a page devoted to the 2008 Victorian Championship.

First paid entry was received last night by the Treasurer.

Entry forms were available at the INTERCLUB competition.
Or download from the linked web-page.

Can you dangle some names yet? Any chance for the Vic Champs to be anywhere near as strong as the current NSW Champs?

The Tournament Director 'dangled' a few in a phone conversation to me; but you know what Treasurers are like, , they only count when the money is on the table. So, 1 it is to date.

It is hard to see any trend in recent years that would support the chance.

Hi Moz,

I have a curious question. Why do senior and female entrants in their respective events have to be affiliated with CV clubs but others not?

cheers Fg7

Err, um, ah....
I would like to help you

but

che?

In other words, I am not sure what angle you are getting at.

While you attempt to make clear for me....just let me say that I thought all entrants would have to be members of affiliated Clubs. (OMG, that makes it a CLOSE championship maybe. ).
In fact the entry form requires the applicant to nominate which Club he is a member of. (So, I am thinking perhaps you have not read the entry form section...?)

Default Clashes on Saturday.

Will the Championship T.O. put out an amended schedule and will it allow further peregrination.

I wonder if begging and grovelling will help.

Well the first link says "...Open to members of CV affiliated chess clubs born in 1948 or earlier" and "...Open to female members of CV affiliated chess clubs." Yet no other mention for other tournaments.

Upon further inspection, I do see this area on the entry form. I wonder if playing in the Championship does require a member to really belong to a club? Maybe its just a feel good statement that is never enforced as a rule. For example, I couldn't see anyone not letting a player of the calibre of David Smerdon play in the event. But on the other hand, has David ever been a member of any Victorian chess club? And what about some of the more transient local stars like a David Hacche or a Michael Baron? Don't these guys fall into the individual player category?

cheers,

I would never suspect you of angle shooting.
I genuinely did not get the post, so I used my own interpretation.

The weibye-meister says this was a drafting chichi.

Ah. Now we are on the same wavelength.
Yes, it is enforced.

What we do is seek out a well-heeled supporter and get him to sponsor the membership. We have a 100% success-rate. It was what we offered in the AUS. OPEN proposal (for Mexicans).

But on the other hand, has David ever been a member of any Victorian chess club? And what about some of the more transient local stars like a David Hacche
He is a member of CJCC.

or a Michael Baron?
There are limits.

Has he ever entered?

Don't these guys fall into the individual player category?

cheers,
Hypothetical.

Question

Does anyone have any encouraging updates? What's the interest so far?

I have paid entries from
Malcolm Pyke
Vic Kildisas
Douglas Lindberg

The Sandman says he has entries from a few.

The Saturday playing options have caused a few to have clashes with the schedule.

I suppose the positive thing is, even at this early stage, it looks like participation for this year will be better than last year.

Can we assume that the automatic entrants (Rujevic, Goldenberg, and Schon) are playing?
