Default class 3 grand prix rating approved

class 3 grand prix rating approved and venue confirmed
The tournament will be held at 3 Rochester Road, which apart from being the Box Hill Chess Club venue is now also the Chess Victoria headquarters for 2008
I am sure it will prove again an ideal venue for this the 19th Vic Open Championship; especially now that extra analysis and preparation spaces are available.
There is ample parking,
Light refreshments at moderate prices are available
It is close to Canterbury Station and the famous Maling Road coffee shops.
Marcus Raine’s bookshop will be open

Early bird entries started flowing today...obviously the significant early-bird discount is persuasive.

The entries of Domagoj Dragicevic and Mehmedalija Dizdarevic adds real strength to the 2008 Victorian OPEN week-ender, due to start on Saturday this week.

The strong juniors, who will be in contention for the later VIC Junior, will be eying off Dragicevic and Dizdarevic as the benchmark to be achieved in open competition.

If Hacche, Dizdarevic, and Dragicevic can get through the early rounds with no surprise losses then the final rounds, on Monday the 9th of June, will be very interesting.

DJ is now an unlikely starter.

Default Round 3 pairings

Code:
1 Kempen, Leon 1969 [2] : Goldenberg, Igor 2362 [2]
 2 Sandler, Leonid 2282 [2] : Cheng, Bobby 1958 [2]
Board 2 will be alone worth the price of admission. Can young Bobby achieve a Sam Dalton result?

Code:
 3 Dizdarevic, Mehmedalija 1929 [2] : Rujevic, Mirko 2191 [2]
A sense of deju vu on this one.

4 Wallis, Christopher 2153 [2] : Voon, Richard 1861 [2]
5 Hacche, David J 2127 [2] : Cerina, Igor 1851 [2]
The Arbiter is touting an interesting result on 5.

Code:
 6 Mijatovic, Bosko 1777 [2] : Dragicevic, Domagoj 2125 [2]
 7 Morris, James 2036 [2] : Tang, Jason 1660 [2]
 8 Chan, Michael 1616 [1.5] : Lojanica, Milenko 2016 [1.5]
Could the junior win this one?

Code:
 9 Schon, Eugene 1960 [1.5] : Bashar, Omar Khaled 1901 [1.5]
10 Podbury, Brendan 1426 [1.5] : Chmiel, Rad 1654 [1.5]
11 Cook, Geoff L 1599 [1] : Gorka, Carl 2139 [1]
Geoff gets the #1 seed and then the high rated player coming off a loss.
Code:

12 Podvorac, Zeljko 1580 [1] : Yu, Derek 1886 [1]
13 Brockman, Roland 1562 [1] : Stojic, Svetozar 1836 [1]
14 Sannidhanam, Anurag 1532 [1] : Kildisas, Victor E 1830 [1]
15 Davis, Tony J 1828 [1] : Forster, Tim 1501 [1]
16 Tionko, Efrain 1794 [1] : Stokie, William 1491 [1]
17 Lee, Kam 1518 [1] : Tsagarakis, Angelo 1788 [1]
Board 17 looks like an MCC special.

Code:
18 Ivanov, Nikola 1459 [1] : Wyss, Felix 1764 [1]
19 Szuveges, Narelle S 1711 [1] : Davies, Stephen P 1403 [1]
20 Zivkovic, Sam 1393 [1] : Bearup, Paul 1708 [1]
21 Frost, Peter 1708 [1] : Dalton, Laurie 1316 [1]
22 Kostrzewa, Jake 1383 [1] : Escribano, Jose 1700 [1]
Watch 22 with interest.

Code:
23 Lawson, Shane 1690 [1] : Cannon, Jim 1351 [1]
24 Tuncer, Deniz 1301 [1] : Flude, David A 1665 [1]
What is Fludey doing on the low boards.

Code:
25 Feng, Thomas 1314 [1] : Yu, Sally 1609 [1]
26 Ng, Isaac 1474 [0] : Lyons, Linden 1168 [1]
27 Zoppi, Mario 1832 [0] : Anguswamy, Manoj 1001 [0]
28 Ng, Joshua 998 [0] : Renzies, Elliott 1312 [0]
Yep, there is Elliott against a ....

Hi Moz,

Great coverage! Really enjoying the live games and updates.

cheers Fg7
P.S Good to still see Victorians still setting the example of making Ozchess their preferred Australian chess site for tournament coverage ahead of Chesschat! If only there was a bit more live coverage North of the border on this place

Board 2 will be alone worth the price of admission. Can young Bobby achieve a Sam Dalton result?
Well, nearly....although the Sandman had to play v. quickly to attend a house auction.

The Arbiter is touting an interesting result on 5.
Hacche's opponent thought he had a pawn @ c5 @ risk; when in fact tactically it did not need protection. Hacche's opponent therefore squandered a tempo and that was enough together with Hacche's advantage as white...1-0.

Code:
 9 Schon, Eugene 1960 [1.5] : Bashar, Omar Khaled 1901 [1.5]
10 Podbury, Brendan 1426 [1.5] : Chmiel, Rad 1654 [1.5]
11 Cook, Geoff L 1599 [1] : Gorka, Carl 2139 [1]
Geoff gets the #1 seed and then the high rated player coming off a loss.
Well I was a doubting Thomas.
Geoff came through with a pleasant upset (from his side of the board).

Code:

17 Lee, Kam 1518 [1] : Tsagarakis, Angelo 1788 [1]
Board 17 looks like an MCC special.
In fact a special upset...well done Kam.

Code:
23 Lawson, Shane 1690 [1] : Cannon, Jim 1351 [1]
24 Tuncer, Deniz 1301 [1] : Flude, David A 1665 [1]
What is Fludey doing on the low boards.
Code:
28 Ng, Joshua 998 [0] : Renzies, Elliott 1312 [0]
Yep, there is Elliott against a ....
Elliott was fortunate enough to make the second last mistake.

31 Froiland, Gunnar 1191 [0] : Hamilton, Liam 866 [0]

Great result for this rapidly improving junior. 0-1

Also under notice
Roland Brockman 1-0 Svetozar Stojic

Full results on the CV web-site within an hour.

thanks fg7

Actually, a degree of 'ducks paddling underwater' here as the DGT board is a bit flakey today. Might be the approach of the winter solstice.
