Default Date of birth

Hi Moz,

Any chance that BHCC,CJCC and CV would reconsider posting full dates of birth for junior players??
(on both forum postings and their websites)
This practice has been stopped by just about every other chess club (and most other sporting clubs etc) in recognition of growing problems with identity fraud etc.

Do a search on Google for my 10 year old and he gets more hits than his father. Sign of the times maybe but BHCC,CJCC and CV seem to be the only ones left that list the full date. Everyone else just puts an age or the year.

I am quite sure that continuing to publish this info will result in some juniors electing not to play in Victorian events if it has not already done so.

1 Ok. Repaired on this bb as requested.
2 I will liaise with the BHCC web-site folk to change all future posting of event reports.
3 I will leave chesschat to whomever posts there; although I had not noticed BHCC results as of late.

4 I will send an alert to the CV web-site manager too.

Apologies if the bird has flown the coop.

Default Box Hill OPEN entries....w.i.p.

There are 40 early bird entries at the time of writing with the star entrant IM Leonid Sandler who after some years of persuading has agreed to join us for this tournament. Leonid is however not the highest rated entrant as that honour at this stage belongs to Sam Chow who outranks him by 8 points We will also see the return to the club of Denis Bourmistrov 2002 Open winner. Apart from these famous players we are also presenting a whole bunch of new micro juniors; so keep your eye on Raymond Chan, Puanala Kiripitige, Daniel Yuan, Eric Tsai-Luong, and Kyle Gibson. And let us not forget the experience of Laurence Matheson, Justin Tan, Isaac and Joshua Ng, and Thomas Feng. Come and join us for the tournament as early bird discounts are about to finish.

Thanks Moz,
BTW was not meant as a criticism. My son probably doesn't care at the moment, he just likes seeing his name on the www but it is a problem I see every day in my work that needed fixing.

If you know where to look you can find out just about everything about anyone but it is the ones that are easy that normally get targeted.
With more and more info becoming available it makes sense to not make it too easy.

Your first post (on this issue) convinced me a change of practice was warranted.

Interesting issue?! I have a recollection that the ACF also includes junior date of birth in the SwissPerfect DB "import" files that get published from time to time. Or do those come from the states (i.e. CV)?

hi frosty

I get copy of those files, although I don't use them for import.

They come via Milic from the ACF Ratings Officer source I suspect. Very restricted circulation though; and while I am guilty of the odd hydra-use, and even handle-change, I don't think I have frauded an identity.

With one day to go the Box Hill Open is attracting a strong field led by top Victorians Sam Chow and IM Leonid Sandler They are closely followed by club champion Chris Wallis, Zhigen Lin, Denis Bourmistrov, Leon Kempen , and New Zealand sensation Bobby Cheng. There is still plenty more room in the tournament. Entries close 7.30 tomorrow. Go to the website: www.boxhillchess.org.au for full details

The price of early bird entry = $35

The price of coffee = $1

The look on Efrain Tionko's face when he saw his round 1 pairing....PRICELESS.

Default round 1 results

Note in particular the results in games 3, 10, 12, 15, 19, 20, 21, 23, and 26.
A rather impressive demonstration of the avoidance of the 1st round being a junk round.
