Thanks Paul. I think the format offers value in and of itself whilst at the same time giving chess players good value to win a decent prize. It would be great if players get on board these events. It could lead to a mega Xmas swiss!

Thank you for your important question Jack.

Each winner of a four player knockout gets automatic entry into the Xmas swiss. This means that potentially players can get into the Xmas swiss for as little as a $15 entry fee, whilst at the same time participate in a fun event against evenly matched opposition. MCC will guarantee that all knockout winners are guaranteed a free entry to the Xmas swiss.

It is important to prevent angle shooting.
We do not want a situation where stronger players seek to take advantage of weaker players by winning the knockout and then not playing in the Xmas swiss and asking for a cash refund of the Xmas swiss entry fee.

Furthermore, we want as many different chess players to qualify for the Xmas swiss, not the same top 20%. That is, we want to offer something of value to all chess players, not just the elite.

Finally, these tournaments are an attempt by MCC to build the playing pools early for the Xmas swiss, so that chess players can really be part of an awesome tournament. We want every qualifying winner to play in the Xmas swiss. We don't want to be mucked around by people who don't want to play chess. If a small minority of players, qualify and then don't play in the Xmas swiss, they won't be given an entry fee refund.

Yes, Grant is right. Just nominate which you prefer Frank.

Looks like our first round robin will be

G.Kolak
E.Warren
A.Beaumont
and F.Beaumont

at the moment its probably a blitz match, but it may be an allegro

Anything is possible, everything is negotiable. The base position is that $5 per player has to be set aside for rating fees.

Alright then....

Standard Pool

Sylvester Urban
Frank Lekkas
(need at least a 3rd, I can play if we don't get a 4th)

Blitz Pool

Elizabeth Warren
Jeffry Kolak
Archie Beaumont
Fitzroy Beaumont

ask a few more players and work out which days suit.

I think the club needs some flyers advertising the qualifiers.
