Ah.. Ethan can only win 1 prize! Besides Kyle gives him a good run for his money in the Rookies shield events. For 15 minute games, it is long enough to really get into trouble and not have to blame the clock. Over 4 days of chess (for the total set of events) things could move around as well.

Also, many do not have rapid ratings but may be great at it in practice.

A wonderful day was held at Billanook college. Very pleasant surroundings and a well run inaugural BCCCC event. Jamie Cross did a great job as the arbiter, and he had also organised a number of puzzles and problem solving to fill in the day as well. Many thanks to Pearl Yung for getting this whole concept off the ground. The next event is 1st May, from 9.30am.

Congratulations to Ascaro Pecori won the Open section, and Ethan Lim the junior. Ascaro had not intended to play (he was there for his son), but he was encouraged!

Default Billanook College and Aust Junior Championsip tie in

For those Melbourne chess parents/coaches that are curious about Billanook college, the college conducts a tour on a regular basis. The next is on Saturday 1st May, from 10.30am (that ties in with the Billanook College Chess Championship Cup dates, that start at 9.30am). Bookings are preferred though not essential. See Billanook College - Printed Information and College Tour Request Form for the booking form.

At the previous tour, two school captains came to the BCCCC tournament.

Come along and play chess at the host school of the 2011 Australian Junior Chess Championship! Parents can join a short guided tour of the grounds to get an idea of what's in store. Guided tours meet in the Alan Ross Centre, which is the proposed venue of the big event in January 2011.

Default Round 2 report

Fantastic weather presented itself for Round 2 of the BCCCC. Again, Jamie Cross was arbiter and there were many entertaining puzzles when chess was not being played. Joshua Deverajh (U12) proved too strong for the assembled players, winning by a point from Gilchrist Clendinnen (Open) and Ethan Lim (U8).

Results are below, with prize money and trophies awarded. Billanook college donated two 'Be Your Best' awards, and these went to Lauren Huning and Johnathan Ho.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and we look forward to round 3 on 19 June.

Default Round 3 results

39 players turned up for a very pleasant day of rapid chess. Leonid came out on top with only 1 draw (to Guy) while Guy was also undefeated but had 3 draws and so Ascaro snuck into 2nd spot. A good result for Joshua with a draw to Guy in the last round.

Damar, Joshua and Ethan won the U16/U12/U8 prizes respectively, while Joshua and Denise won the overall best boy and girl prizes.

A well done to Jamie Cross as arbiter and Pearl's overall organising.
