Default Croydon Chess: The Waller 25 Feb - 25 Mar 2010

The first classic time control Croydon tournament for the year starts in a week's time.

As this year we are calling our tournaments after club members, we have named this one ‘The Waller’ after the popular and much appreciated Croydon CC founding member, Tony Waller, who moved up north last year.

It is ACF rated and runs over 5 Thursday evenings, with play beginning Thursday 25th February at 7:45pm. at the Croydon RSL.

The time control is 60 mins + 30 sec. All games will be published on the Croydon CC website.

Director of Play is IM Guy West. Guy can be contacted on 0402 083 654.

Players intending to enter this tournament should register by 7:30 pm sharp with play commencing at 7:45 pm. Anyone allowed to enter after 7:30 pm will be randomly paired against other latecomers. The field will be closed once round 1 has been completed (no mid-tournament entries.) Postponements will be available with the consent of your opponent and the Director of Play. Players entering the tournament are expected to complete the tournament unless they have valid reasons to withdraw, approved in advance by the DOP.

(Guy is trying to change the culture of tournaments to further improve the standard of chess etiquette at the club – he comes from the Jamieson era! )

The forfeit time for games will be 30 minutes.

The entry fee is $10 for members. As in the past, we require membership in order to play in our regular tournaments (not our Grand Prix weekender or Open of course).

Club Membership
-- $60.00 / year for seniors
-- $40.00 / year for juniors
---- $20.00 / year for 2nd junior
---- additional juniors free
Croydon has regular club tournaments (as well as blitz nights and training workshops) throughout the year and membership is well worth it.

See the calendar on our website for more details: http://www.croydonchess.com/Calendar...U/Default.aspx

Detailed contact and venue details can also be found at our website. Look forward to seeing all the familiar faces and some new ones.

NOTE: If you'd like to visit the club before this, tomorrow evening 18th Feb starting at 7:45 pm we'll have a 7 round blitz event (5 min a game.) This is always a fun night.

Default This should be supported

I cannot play this tournament as I am far too busy. However I have visited Croydon and it is a really well run and friendly chess club. So all you people out in the far East support this club and tournament.

Since this is not a FIDE rated tournament and is just a friendly club event, the DOP (Guy West) will also play. So he’s very likely to be the top seed.
