David Beaumont is, of course, right that the term "member" should not have been used by me in the statement I made and for this I apologise. Actually, the members of Hobart Chess Club and Hobart Junior Chess Clubs will not be coming members of MCC, so they will not be entitled to vote.
However, a plan to cooperate with clubs interstate and internationally is being put into place here. The MCC is seeking to broaden its horizons, to become an active part of the Victorian chess community, the Australian chess community, and ultimately, the international chess community. As such we will be offering certain rights, which may or may not be reciprocated, with clubs which we undertake actions with. In this case, the members of Hobart Chess Club will be able to play at the MCC without paying the visitors fee, and will be able to play in MCC events at the same price as MCC members, with the exception of Club Championship events, for which they will individually have to become full members of the club. Hopefully this action will build ties between the clubs, and future similar actions will do the same with other clubs. In this way, the MCC will once again be seen to have shaken off its previous mantle of an unfriendly, isolated institution. Once again, I apologise for any misunderstanding caused by my lack of clarity.
