From the bush telegraph.

MCC game from round 8
Morris-Hacche 1-0 (it looks like it was a very quick win).

It was, little over 20 moves. Excellent attack by Morris who kept the pressure against an undeveloped Hacche.

thanks Grant, another enjoyable evening at the club!

Congratulations to GM and Melbourne Chess Club member Darryl Johansen for winning the Vic for 12th time(!!!) in his brilliant career!
Another honour for Melbourne Chess Club, David Baumont's winning the Reserves
and thus gaining the right to play in the Vic Championship next year!
Last night I had the chance to play my friend and club mate from BHCC Adam, one of the juniors who are usually giving me a very hard time in our encounters! Last night I was happy to get the 1/2 point in the end although I had the better in the beginning winning the exchange! I wish him all the best in his future!

I am very happy with my performance in this, since with one more round to go I am already on 4 points with a good chance to get to 50% or even better in the final!
Considering that I was absolutely roasted by MOZ before I finally was allowed to enter the tournament, I feel obliged to thank CV VP Leonid Sandman for letting me play and thus presenting me with a unique chessic experience!

Yes. I think Daryl cannot be caught now. Awesome player, maybe its his 13th win? In any case, outstanding effort and congratulations.

Thank you for the sentiment, I certainly am in the driving seat. However, the tournament is still very much alive as only 1/2 a point separates Dizdarevic and myself. I still have to play two games, whilst Dizdarevic only has one game left

cheers,
P.S Beaumont is a French name, not German

It reminds of the sterling campaign fought by Victorian jockeys as to the benefits of a whip to get slow-coaches across the line.

The promotional efforts of the Sandman have been good for Victorian chess in the past two years.

Undoubtly Leonid is an asset for our Chess, and that's not depriving all the other volonteer Chess workers in our community an inch of their efforts and achievements!

In honour of fg:

To be sung to the tune of "Hollywood 7"

" Well I was livin' in a hotel just off Fitzroy
He moved in across the hall
And he said he'd be a chess star
And waited every mornin' for the ca-all
So I asked him in to share a drink
But he hardly had the ti-ime
A call might come tomorrow
He had to learn his li-ines

Oh Firegoat 7 looms to vent till your game goes up in lights ,
Oh-oh Firegoat 7 you can dream your dreams for 7 bucks a night "
