I wouldnt have thought so. Siberian tigers have a more orange coloured coat which is much thicker - they live in the snow in Eastern Russia. The one in the picture is probably a Bengal tiger or a Sumatran tiger. I would suspect a Bengal tiger - but probably a rather young one. The coat looks reletively well groomed and is of a yellow/white colour. The coat doesnt look thick enough to be that of a Siberian tiger either. Bengal tigers live in India and Bangladesh in very hot conditions and obviously dont need the very thick coat. The best place to see them is the Sundabans mangrove swamps at the end of the Ganges Delta in India and Bangladesh. Bengal tigers are the least endangered of the worlds tigers. The one in the picture with me at MCC is probably an IndoChinese tiger as it was donated to the temple as a cub which had lost its mother in the wild... (thus these are the type which lives in Thailand).

Default Goldenberg beats Morris and Smirnov trying to win duck and champagne

Overnight leader James Morris has lost to Igor Goldenberg this morning with Goldenberg now in the lead...

In other news, Vladimir Smirnov is taking on Richard Voon for the famous "Duck and Champagne" - although I think that this match is only for the champagne (Vladimir doesnt want a duck). The idea is that if Vladimir can win 10 in a row, then he gets the duck and champagne! Richard has been offering the duck and champagne deal for years to anyone who can beat him 10 blitz games in a row...

Default 5 minute marathon

Just a brief interlude from the main event....

Grant and I did a 10 hour session of blitz at the Derby Hotel on nearby Brunswick Street (big thanks go out to them:clap: ) to promote the club, chess generally, and to raise some funds. We had a money tin and asked for donations to our building fund, much like a sports team might do at their local. I'm not sure how much we raised yet, but the evening was great fun. While Australia were playing New Zealand at rugby, and the noise in the pub was deafening, Grant and I just kept on playing. The locals got into it, asking questions about chess, about us, and about the MCC.

Before the 10 hour marathon, there was a 5-hour marathon played by Elie Beranjia and Malcolm Pyke but the details of that are sketchy. As for the 10 hour blitz, the score was 39.5 to 28.5 in favour of the President who proved the better 5 minute player quite convincingly

A rundown of the openings(roughly):

Four Knights
Sicilian Closed, Scheveningen, Kan, Rauzer, Najdorf, 2.c3, GP Attack (no Dragons )
Spanish Bird, Closed.
QGD Exchange, Tarrasch
King's Indian Defence
Torre
Sokolsky
Larsen
1.h4 (sorry, I don't know what this crap is called Domagoj )
Reti
English
Alekhine
Catalan
Nimzo-Indian Defence
English Defence
Latvian gambit
Colle
Pirc
French
Dutch
Czech Benoni
Caro Kann
...and a few others that started 1.d4

If anyone wants to know any specific variations, they will have to put me under some retrograde hypnosis as I can hardly remember a game. But that wasn't really the point. We had fun, sold the club, and took chess to people who normally wouldn't think about it
