Chessexpress has reported that someone was caught using a computer at the Australian Open. That is disappointing but in a tournament where prize money is bigger than usual, I suppose its to be expected that some people will resort to this type of thing.

I personally don't think cheating like this should be tolerated at any level and expulsion from the tournament should be the first step taken. I think also, (depending on the situation) a minimum 6 month ban from all rated tournaments should be enforced.

Understandable sentiments Jaydon, but you don't want to use a hammer to swat a fly. I think expulsion from the event is probably enough to make the point that cheating is unacceptable.

There is no need to be cynical. I think an important consideration that has been over looked is just how wide spread this sort of thing is. I mean just because this might be the first time someone has been caught doesn't necessarily mean other people haven't done the same thing but not gotten caught.

But I don't think the problem is that wide spread based on the chess tournaments I have been to.

Here is the game Edward (the alleged cheater) was playing before he got caught in the crapper with the ice pick .... or was that a Fritz?
