Default OzBase - Game Viewer

The OzBase game viewer which allows you to see games contained in the OzBase database can be found at:

http://ozbase.paxmans.net/

As Paul Dunn is only one man, the upload of games into OzBase sometimes takes time. If you want games that you've played in Australia (under tournament conditions) to be placed in OzBase please send the game to me in portable game notation (pgn) and I will then contact Paul on your behalf to have the game placed in the database.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend a hearty thank you and show of appreciation to Paul Dunn, Treasurer of the ACT Chess Association. His tireless work in organising Doeberl, tending to his Treasurer duties, and - in any spare time he may have, putting games into OzBase for the benefit of others needs to be acknowledged and appreciated by the wider Australian chess playing community.

As such on behalf of the Australian chess playing community - Thank you Paul. Your sacrifice and efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we are all the better for them. Thanks again,

AO

Note that this is not the official ozbase site. That can be found at:
http://www.ozbase.com.au/

The viewer site above will sometimes be a few tournaments out of date compared to the official site.

Or alternatively send them direct to Paul. Actually, I doubt that Paul would be interested in taking a bunch of individual games that are not provided through official channels, but you could ask.

What about an acknowledgement for the guy who wrote the viewer site that you actually linked to??

This is true, but the name of the thread is 'OzBase - Game Viewer' not 'OzBase'.

One can send games directly to Paul. I have done so several times so this 'official channel' stuff is nonsense. Paul is happy to get Australian tournament games from anyone. He does, however, like to put up a whole slew of games from the same tournament as opposed to individual games here and there. Moreover there is a large backlog of games he currently is working through.

I don't know who that is, but yes, he deserves commendation as well.

Er, that would be the guy you've been communicating with in this thread, Pax, as in Jonathan Paxman... ozbase.paxmans.net etc

And yes, he deserves commendation... it's a great site he's set up.

That occurred to me, but the nature of him being an unregistered member made it impossible to ascertain to any degree whether he is in fact Jonathan Paxman. Perhaps only Paul Dunn getting the pat on the back initially is why he has such an axe to grind with me now - if it really is him.

Please. I have no axe to grind with you, just a few facts to correct. One thing you can be sure of is that I do not require your pat on the back.

That's good work Pax.

I have a number of games from Brisbane which have been played at various tournaments. I know from speaking with Paul Dunn that it is his preference to only putting up a large number of games from the same tournament basically all at the same time. I was wondering if that position is still the same, or if it is possible to place the games on OzChess myself.

You may not have the answer to that question, but thought I'd run it by you before I speak with Paul again.

I don't think anyone except the most dedicated chess players would actually take the time to go over games from an average club player.

Paul's site is updated completely manually as far as I know. This means it would be very difficult for him to update tournaments if it involved games coming in in dribs and drabs. The preferable situation is for one person to collect all available games from a particular tournament, collate them and convert them to PGN, then send the games on to Paul for final editing and inclusion in the database.

Possibly to check the openings? I know it was a practice of coaches in Aus Juniors to bookbash games of potential opponents.

I was sad to see OzBase did not contain any of my games, although I have been out of action for a while. Maybe that is why.

Join the club, I don't think its kept up to date with any kind of regularity. On that of that the fellow who uploads the games fancy's himself as a historian, so the games that do get uploaded tend to be from the turn of the century.
