I remember learning to play chess on Nintendo's Battle Chess game, many many years ago.
When you captured a piece they would have a little fight sequence, which were usually hilarious. I can honestly say that game made me a fan of chess. Who else has played Battle Chess, I think it was also released for the PC. |

I have this on my "portable media player". It takes far too long for the computer to make moves though, and the battle scene when a piece capture takes place is pretty annoying >_>

I think there is a setting that allows you to play straight up chess with non-animated pieces. |
