Question MP3 Players During Game?

What's the rule where your opponent listens to an mp3 player during the game, but the music is too loud, and you ask him to turn it down but can still hear the music. Are mp3 plays allowed during tournament games?

An arbiter local to here would say that you should take the point up with the arbiter, not your opponent. And you could expect the arbiter to rule that it is a disturbance if it has caused you to make a complaint. If he does rule it is a disturbance then that MP3 player is not allowed, but other quieter ones may be.

I believe that the majority of arbiters will go with the FIDE rules which more or less state that no electronic devices are permitted unless expressly approved by the arbiter. So in other words no MP3 players, no phones, no radios, no Nintendo etc etc but possibility of using FIDE approved devices to record moves if expressly allowed by the arbiter.

That's a bit harsh. I have no issues with people listening to their mp3 player during a game, so long as it is inaudible to me and therefore not distracting to me.

Presumably a broad brush no electronic devices rule would preclude people with a pace maker from playing chess.

MP3 player should not be allowed in the venue at all. Arbiter might turn a blind eye, but should if it makes any noise must ban it from the tournament hall.

So you are saying I should have complained to the arbiter then? But wouldn't my opponent get the shits with me if I did that?

Everyone has the shits with me but I wear with pride. Actually such players are insulting their opponent, the implication is that the wearer/hearer can defeat his opponent inspite of listening to music without having to fully concentrate.

If you upset them by complaining all the better, then they will be upset and more likely to mistake

Any human being ought to cop a life ban on life for listening to anything of MP3 malquality. MP3 is the McDonalds of sound, and life is too short to suffer McDonalds.

What!! Offer him to you?? he could sue Noddy for such a reference. First of all this conspiracy nonsence may be contageous and he will be ridiculed forever, or he may become an Anti-Conspiracist like I am an Anti-Christ. He would also be beyond help.

So just pass him on to Bill or KB so he can be pulpullised to death by a thousands cuts. Then doubled penalty for complaining about it or for doing so in the wrong thread.

I have had four Mac burgers in four decades. Every time, I thought it was revolting.

Potential POTM candidate, despite the thread hijack.
