Players have never been allowed to disturb their opponents, and an audible MP3 player (or walkman) does that, as does crunching on an apple. These days I think the laws state that a sound from an electronic device results in an automatic loss to an offending player, and eviction for a spectator. Tournament rules might ban electronic devices altogether (do you want Stockfish on your opponents Blackberry?) but that could not apply to pacemakers and other medical equipment (unless it could be used for cheating). |
