When the World Championship match between Kramnik vs Anand be played?

Originally it was scheduled for October 11 – 30, 2008. Then it was changed to 14 October to 2 November 2008. Now, I'm not even sure if this is still on anymore.

Why aren't you not sure? There is no public dispute regarding this match. The reason for the date change was not controversial.

Regarding the Kamsky - Topalov match, yes, that match is not yet confirmed and is still up in the air. I read somewhere that the Topalov camp was pressing hard to have the match held in Bulgaria but Kamsky wanted it somewhere else.

Kramnik is, or used to be a heavy smoker. That means Anand would probably clean the floor with him by the third round

I don't think Kramnik is all that good in matches. He used to lose them regularly (e.g. the "final" to Shirov, who then got dominated by Garry Kasparov).

But Anand does not have a waterproof match record either.

But they're both in reasonably good form now, so it is an even matchup (Kramnik-Topalov was a bit of an upset, I thinkTopalov looked like the stronger player at the time).

Everything hinges on what happens when Anand has White. If Kramnik can rely on a safe string of Petroffs, then Anand is in trouble, because one or two of those Catalans will go to Kramnik and probably none of them will go to Anand.

On the other hand if the Petroff is faulty, then Kramnik has a big problem on his hands because the Berlin Wall is missing more than one brick, and the Sveshnikov is becoming a distant memory for Kramnik, not that he'd ever have the courage to use it in a match anyway though.

So who knows? Maybe Kramnik will treat us to a solid version of the Caro-Kann.

Counterplay

Kramnik may surprise us with his opening choice as black. These days Ruy Lopez Marshall attack has become a good choice for securing a draw. Even Aronian uses it with great success most of the time.

However, if he uses Petroff then Anand will need to find a novelty or two.
I don't know what Anand will play as black, but probably the Nimzo/Queen's Indian because this us the universal choice at top level these days.

Also, Grunfeld would be a good choice and all world championship matches have witnessed this opening at least once. Does anyone have any information about who the seconds will be for either Kramnik or Anand in the upcoming match?

Great ending! Anand showed Kramnik that he is planning to remain as champion. Anand's main nemesis is Kramnik, and its there that every win / loss counts. Brilliant insight by Anand in the end game.
